Travel to the Russian Federation

In reviewing the travel requirements for the Russian Federation, there are some important facts that a visitor to that country should know.

First, there is a visa requirement for U.S. citizens traveling to Russia.  This is rather common for many countries.  If you are unsure of the requirements, your travel agent, with international travel experience, can most certainly assist in this regard.  Additionally, the Russian government will not allow a U.S. citizen to leave the country with an expired visa, and it could take some time to obtain a new one.  Be sure your visa will not expire during your travels.

The Russian Federation doesn't give any special regard to assistance by the U.S. diplomatic mission - meaning that if you were to have visa problems while in the Russian Federation, the assistance of the U.S. Department of State (USDOS) may not help you in speeding up the process of correcting your visa status.

The USDOS site states that the Russian Federation regularly changes their visa requirements, so proper planning is absolutely vital.   If your future travel plans include the Russian Federation, visit the U.S. Department of State www.state.gov for detailed information.
