U.S. State Department Issues Travel Warning for Egypt

On January 30 the U.S. State Department upgraded its travel alert for U.S. citizens to Egypt to a travel warning, following escalated demonstrations in that country.  According to the State Department, Americans in Egypt who require assistance  or who are concerned about loved ones should contact the American Embassy in Cairo:  EgyptEmergencyUSC@state.gov.

The State Department further suggests that U.S. citizens in Egypt enroll in the Smart Travelers Enrollment Program (STEP) at the following website: https://travelregistration.state.gov.  Updated information on travel and security in Egypt may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-202-501-4444 or 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, on a regular toll line at.
